/>

We have started 2012 with enthusiasm and look forward to serving all our current customers and new ones as we always have. We appreciate your business and would like you to use this blog as a way to express your experience with us. This is our advertising and public relations and our way to improve services to you.

One comment we have heard frequently is "I wish I had went with you in the first place". Some feel what we charge may be "high" but if you take into consideration David's experience and the care he takes in serving our customers, our prices are fair. We provide a unique service and most carriers are a drop and go. You do pay a lower prices at first but the various things that can and do occur with that cheaper prices costs you in the long run. He often goes above and beyond. Yes we agree it does sometime take a little longer if you use us but I assure you, you will be glad you did.. Please come back often to check are schedule. I always label it tentative because things change a lot in this business. Not only on our end, but also your end. "Like" us on our Facebook page Goalder Transportation and leave feedback on it if you prefer.

We look forward to hearing and working with you this year....

**For Sale**

Here are some machines that are for sale. We have serviced many of our long term customers and brought on some new clients. January will start our 15th year in business. Yes it is hard to believe, but we have watched the trucking industry go through lots of changes. Some for the better, others not so much. As we have always said, "The best will keep on plugging along, or if not just re-invent into something bigger and better". May 2010 be a truly wonderful year for all.

We are extremely proud of a very large job we completed this year. Indiana University had a massive changeover of new equipment. We kept it in the family and our son Matthew took time off his job to help his Dad out..

Our January schedule is still being worked on, but will be posted soon...Happy New Year to all of our customers and friends.

(2) MedX Equipment For Sale

Passing along equipment for sale. This is a first in a long time that David hasn't been on the road working. We almost don't know what to do with ourselves but just the fact that we can be together is a wonderful thing.

In a recent article in a trucker publication an article caught my eye. The story was entitled " The Choices Between Job and Family are Tough". A good percentage of business owners don't have a normal or regular schedule. They work 24/7 either by choice or necessity. When the phone rings they feel the need to answer no matter what time of day or night.

The divorce rate is very high in the trucking industry. Sometimes when the kids were young the only way that we really got to spend any quality time with each other was to go on long trips. Picture in your mind a truck cab with 2 adults and 2 children and a dog. When the kids got older those trips stopped because their activities took a front seat, which meant that the time we spent as a family got less and less. Sometimes I don't think David has the word "NO" in his vocabulary, but I guess another way to look at it is at least we are working and paying the bills.

Don't get me wrong things at this point in time are going well, actually better than I could ever expect during these economic times, but over the years we had to make some difficult choices.

As they say "this isn't our first rodeo". It has taken more than one time to get it right. Some business's don't last that first five years and here we are half way through our 14 year. You have to go with the flow whether you like it or not.

The comment "It is, what it is" comes up frequently in our business. Sometimes I think people use this as a way to be politically correct. Frankly, I think it has alot of meanings, depending on the day or the client.

At least one thing, we as Americans have the freedom to decide what kind of profession we go into and the choice to watch our lives grow in the direction we wish to take them.

Please Give My Horse a Drink

We have moved some interesting people and items over the years and recently an e-mail came across that I thought David was absolutely crazy. He hates to say no to anyone, I sometimes think he would say yes to moving the Statute of Liberty if he thought he could fit it in the truck

Over the years he has moved some interesting people, (Eddie Murphy, EmmyLou Harris, Jackie Zeman) and some interesting requests he has had, but a recent e-mail made me think he had really lost a screw. In part the e-mail was from a Mr. Todd and he wanted to thank David for picking up his "horse" to make sure he stopped to give it water, and that he was looking forward to seeing him in Texas. When I read it I actually thought this person thought we had horse trailers. I immediately called David and said what the hell!. He laughed and proceeded to explain that the "horse" was an antique piece of equipment from the 1880's. I had no knowledge that their is actually a museum at the University of Texas at Austin. The Physical Culture Collection it seems after looking up on the internet is a who's who and what's what of the many different pieces that have been collected over the years. If you are in anyway connected to equipment it looks like the place to go. There is some interesting info on the website so check it out!

The main points of Customer Service

Attitude and Conduct Make A Difference

Be on time

Call ahead if there's a delay

Be courteous

Be honest

Respect the customer's property

Follow the customer's rules

Appearance Counts

From A Boss Who Tells it Like It Is

I received this from a fellow business owner. This person has a great point and makes you think. Some not all of it fits our situation but something to think about and I am sure many can relate.

To All My Valued Employees:

There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good new is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country.

However, let me tell you some little facts which might help you decide what is in your best interests.

First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside, you've seen my big house at last years Christmas party. I'm sure all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life. However, what you don't see is the back story.

I started this company 28 years ago. At the time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of Ramen noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business--hard work, discipline and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50,000 a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars, lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the designer store for hot fashion items, I was trolling through discount store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9:00 a.m. mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5:00 p.m. I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have that freedom. I eat, breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old with special needs. You of course, only see the fruits of that garden--the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations, you never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.

Yes, business ownership has its benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not with battle wounds.

Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government think's I don't pay enough. I have state, Federal, Property, Sales and Use, Payroll, Worker's Compensation, Unemployment Taxes. Tax on Tax. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On October 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,00 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.

The fact is, if I deducted 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.

Here is what many of you don't understand--to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employee would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't fibrillate and shock his thumb into thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you fibrillate his heart? Business is the heart of American and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.

So where am I going with this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I will fire you. I will fire your co-workers. You can then please with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your children's future. Frankly, it is not my problem any more.

Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy, it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through the country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and who no employees to worry about...

Signed, Your boss

2009 Off and Running

Well we made it through the 2008 year and David is off and running again. It was nice to be able to take some down time and enjoy time with family during the holidays get some maintenance things done But now it's back to the daily grind for both of us.

Getting the year closed out and ready for the next is always a time consuming issue but over the years we have it down pretty well. Streamlining is always my goal each year and being able to spend less time on paperwork, filings and updating never seems to end. When you are dealing with government and its endless regulations and rules your days are always filled with neverending things. I would hope someday that they will get it working in a more timely manner so that we can at least try to understand from a transportation point of view. Truth be told I don't think they will ever get it to where everything runs smoothly. I guess that's just job security. Take it from a former government employee. We love those paper trails.

Happy Holidays from Goalder Transportation 2008

David and I just want to take the time to wish all our customers a wonderful Holiday this year. I thought it hit home not only for ourselves but really anyone who is dealing with todays issue and something some people have lost sight of.

Commentary: How to Bail Yourself Out--by Bernie Madden, Guest Columnist

Let's face it, business is tough these days. And, of course, we all know who is to blame: Greedy CEOs and shareholders, Bil Oil, crazy mortgage lending practices, wasteful government spending, lying politicians and negative media are all easy targets for a pointed finger.

But might I suggest that we small-business owners and corporate executives point our fingers in another direction? We need to be reminded of what leaders are called to do, such as:

*Stay calm and positive. Panic is the stage set by irrational performers. Effective leaders step into challenging scenes with calm assuredness. We are going to get through this. Be positive. Know in your heart that things will improve. The more strongly you believe that truth, the more your employees and customers will be encouraged. And the sooner your business will start moving forward. Positive energy is contagious.

*Always keep your eyes up. If you are always looking down to see where your feet are on the path, you lose sight of the destination. Keep your eyes focused on where you want to go and let your peripheral vision take care of safeguarding the steps necessary to get you there.

*Turn outward. Get out of your cocoon. Do things. See and be seen. Promote your business and employees with confidence. In your personal life, do something good at the grass-roots level. There is no better feeling than making a positive difference in the life of an individual in need.

*Always surround your self with good people. Hire people you like, respect and trust. Give the others an opportunity to find position better suited to their personality. Spend more time with colleagues and friends who are enthusiastic and upbeat.

*Show employees love. Pay attention to your employees. Get to know them. Listen to them. If one seems down, offer encouragement. Tell why you hired her or write him a note listing the things he does well. Be clear in stating expections and generous in showing ways to improve performance. Humans respond better to encouragement and opportunity than to criticism and limitations.

*Alwaysbe true to yourself. Your mother was right. It's the same in business. Know what your business means to you, your family, your employees, your customers and your vendors. Be that business you can be proud of. Failing a character test=in business or personal life always leads to disappointing outcomes.

*Get better. Work on continually improving every aspect of your business. Reward your customer's loyalty with better products and services. Your competitors will cut quality or service. Let them. They won't succeed in the long run by cutting prices a little and cutting quality or service a little more. Customers want good, fair value, not cheap price.

*Always do what's right. It isn't what you do in life that matters, it's how you do it. Integrity and virtue win out in the long run.

*Look good, feel good. Being well-groomed and well-dressed is a way of not only showing respect to your customers, but setting a tone for your staff.

*Count your blessings each day. Remember playing the game at school of starting a topic and each person who heard the story after you would add one thing to the story and by the time the last person heard the story it wasn't anything like it started out and it was so filled with misinformation it was crazy.....well David heard that we had "went out of business".

So to squash the rumor no we haven't "went out of business" we are changing the way we run the business due to the economic times. It is not cost effective to pick up one piece of equipment at a time. The more items the better at one pickup has always been the better way to do it. Also as individuals decide that luxury items are less important than feeding a family or paying bills we will probably have to start hauling other commodities other than exercise equipment until our economy gets over the hump so to speak. We will continue to service our customers we do have as much as possible but it is unrealistic to know that things are changing and we have to change along with the times.

Time will only tell what everyone will be doing.....

Source of Reference

A couple weeks ago a client contacted us and told us he had read on a discussion forum that someone had wanted information on equipment shipping. "Don't you get tired of David being on the road so much?" Well it hasn't always been easy. It takes a special person to be able to handle the alone time, decision making, and running a family without your spouse at home on a normal 9/5 schedule. I sometimes use the analogy I felt like a military spouse. Long periods of away time, although he doesn't dodge bullets, he has to dodge other drivers on the road, long hours, etc. truck driving is considered one of the most dangerous occupations in the country.

Our now grown children and myself had to sacrifice many things, but I think it actually helped mold both two wonderful now successful young people and made me a better person. Sometimes we forget also that it wasn't just the family at home that had the rough times, David sacrificed just as much if not more than we have. Also this is our business, how we make our living and what put two children through college and the roof over our head. We cherish the time we do have together and hold it close. We also like to remind people although we don't work in a traditional office setting, and have normal working hours, we expect the same respect you would give to anyone you would do business with. It isn't as easy as it looks, and its definitely not a job for everyone.

E-mail from Dr. Ken Leistner

I received an e-mail today from Dr. Ken and he asked that I share his experience with others. He is not a "blogger" so asked that I add to our new site...

Cindy--I've been involved in the lifting sports for 49 years and had the pleasure of working for both Nautilus and Hammer Strength. The first eight pieces of Hammer equipment were designed in my living room by Gary Jones, who assisted me with the birth of puppies while staying here, perhaps the highlight of his New York experience! At Nautilus, I worked in the factory, prototype shop, and as the driver of our only tractor trailer. Thus I know equipment and I know long haul trucking. Dave's recent delivery of some vintage Nautilus pieces to our Long Island facility was a reminder that there are true professionals that do a professional job that deserve respect and repeat business! Man, Dave can drive as well as anyone I've seen in the profession and having dealt with manufacturers who run their own rigs, who come close to the level of care the two of you demonstrated in preserving the integrity of the equipment. Not a scratch, not a blemish on these remanufactured ancient pieces which will enhance their value and enjoyment when in use. I can't thank you enough. Without a doubt, you will remain my carrier of choice. Signed Dr. Ken Leistner, Valley Stream, NY (yeah "that" Dr. Ken)......

Goalder Transportation New Blog

Our company has been asked if we had a website, and we thought this would be the next best thing and also help give a little bit of background into what our business has provided over the years. So our first entry will be to give a little history on our company....

David & Cindy Goalder are owners of Goalder Transportation in Sedalia, MO. Our journey to go out on our own started in 1995 in Arleta, CA. David provides more than 30+ years expertise in the transportation field. He started his journey in the furniture moving business as a "youngster" and worked for several of the major moving companies around the Los Angeles, CA area. North American, Atlas, Mayflower, and Graebel Van Lines just to name a few. After more years than he cares to remember "lumping" furniture, he decided to move on to "general freight" from produce to drywall he has moved just about everything there is to haul in this industry. After years of working for someone else, we decided in 1995 to "do our own thing". We have hauled for several exercise equipment manufacturers and somehow fell into almost exclusively hauling equipment. We have transported from a wide variety of manufacturers and dealers: Flex, Icarian, Paramount, Muscle Dynamics, Streamline, Promaxima, Nautilus, Medx, Hammer Strength, and the list goes on..... We have delivered to all states, except Alaska (we did have a client who wanted us to take some equipment to the frozen tundra, but we passed) and Hawaii (believe me we would if we could). David's knowledge of equipment is vast, he has been called a "professional" in what he does. And don't tell him it can't be done, because he will pretty much prove you wrong....

Cindy wears the hat of Office Manager. With almost 30 years of experience in business and office related skills; 17 years of which her experience was in civil service with the State of California from clerical/secretarial, management services, public affairs, and accounting for the Employment Development, State Lands Commission, Dept. of Transportation and the Museum of Science and Industry) now the Science Center.

Our goal is to provide personal service to each customer we have. Our air-ride 2007 Great Dane trailer, blanket wrapped services, we hope will help make your experience a good one with us and hopefully continue as a returning customer.

We welcome comments to our blog so that we can better serve all our customers.

GOALDER TRANSPORTATION
"Quality in Equipment Relocation" since 1995
2500 Kay Ave
Sedalia, MO 65301
(660) 829-4241 FAX (660) 829-4239
David Cell (660) 460-0133 Cindy Cell (660) 460-0134
E-Mail goaldertransportation@hotmail.com
